“Whoever governs Singapore must have that iron in him, or give it up! This is not a game of cards. This is your life and mine. I spent my whole life building this. And as long as I’m in charge nobody is going to knock it down.”
– Lee Kuan Yew

Singaporeans today mourn the loss of our first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Mr. Lee, aged 91, had passed away at 3.18am this morning at the Singapore General Hospital, announced by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Mr. Lee held office from 1959 to 1990, leading Singapore for more than three decades and saw the transformation of the city-state to one of Asia’s richest and most modern nations. He was also a very well-respected man, whose counsel was sought by many political leaders around the world.

A fearless and no-nonsense leader who did not cared about mincing his words, Mr Lee’s legacy will be remembered by Singaporeans.

Thank you for turning this red dot into a pretty formidable one. Rest in Peace, Sir.
