MINT Lumens Season 2: Heroes for Tomorrow

MINT Lumens Season 2: Heroes for Tomorrow returns every Saturday & Sunday in July 2026, 3pm, at MINT Museum of Toys — bringing tokusatsu cinema together with the museum’s vintage toy collection for a non-traditional screening experience.

Created to reimagine how independent cinema can exist within a contemporary museum, MINT Lumens cultivates museum-going culture in Singapore while deepening appreciation for vintage toy collections through creative, unexpected approaches. By blending film, heritage, history, and play, the programme fosters a welcoming community built around shared passions.

Following a successful inaugural run of Season 1: Return to the Museum, featuring Godzilla Raids Again (1955), MINT Lumens returns across May, June & July 2026 with Season 2: Heroes for Tomorrow — a three-part cinematic journey. The season moves from the chaotic destruction of Godzilla in May, to a more introspective new wave in June, culminating in the rise of heroic protectors like Kamen Rider and Ultraman in July — an evolution from uncertainty to imagination, and ultimately, heroism.

July 2026 celebrates the emergence of iconic protectors in tokusatsu as heroic figures taking the stage to defend humanity. Films like Kamen Rider ZO (1993) & Superior 8 Ultra Brothers (2008) highlight courage, teamwork, and heroism, showing how ordinary and extraordinary characters rise to confront threats and inspire hope across generations.

Masaru Aso, once a laboratory assistant in a genetic experiment, awakens from a coma to discover he has transformed into the powerful hero Kamen Rider ZO. When the scientist’s young son is threatened by monsters spawned from a nightmare creation, ZO rises to protect him, battling monstrous threats and confronting dark scientific ambition to save humanity.

Superior 8 Ultra Brothers (2008) — 97 min, PG
5 July (Sun) · 10 July (Fri, 7:30pm — Special Screening for Ultraman Day!) · 11 July (Sat) · 19 July (Sun) · 25 July (Sat)

Ultraman Moebius is joined once again by Ultraman, Ultra Seven, Ultraman Jack, and Ultraman Ace, as well as three later Ultramen (Tiga, Dyna, and Gaia) to fight more powerful versions of familiar Ultra Monsters.

Toy Meets Epic Movie

The themes of courage and transformation in Kamen Rider ZO connect strongly with the museum’s vintage tokusatsu toy collection. As the film follows Masaru Aso’s journey against bio-engineered monsters, the museum’s display of vintage figures, magazines, and collectible memorabilia brings the film’s characters and designs to life — showing how Kamen Rider ZO extended beyond the screen to become a lasting part of Japanese popular culture.

The themes of heroism, hope, and legacy in Superior 8 Ultra Brothers connect just as strongly. Bringing together legendary Ultra Heroes from across generations, the film celebrates the enduring appeal of the Ultraman franchise, while the museum’s vintage figures, magazines, and memorabilia let audiences experience how these icons lived on through toys and fan collectibles.

The special exhibition Hero in Hand complements both films by highlighting the enduring legacy of Kamen Rider and Ultraman as symbols of courage and protection. Through vintage music books, sliding puzzles, Sonosheet magazines, and sofubi figures, the exhibition shows how these heroes extended beyond film and television into everyday popular culture — connecting on-screen stories with the toys and memorabilia fans have cherished across generations.
