Superior 8 Ultra Brothers Singapore screenings are coming this July, and tokuAsia was honoured to be invited to an exclusive preview at MINT Lumens Season 2: Heroes for Tomorrow, hosted at MINT Museum of Toys. As one of the few local platforms covering Singapore’s tokusatsu scene, it was a privilege to experience the museum’s unconventional cinema programme firsthand.

What is MINT Lumens?
MINT Lumens pairs classic tokusatsu films with the museum’s vintage toy collection in a non-traditional screening format. Season 2: Heroes for Tomorrow runs as a three-part journey, moving from Godzilla’s destruction in May to an introspective new wave in June, before culminating in July with heroic protectors like Kamen Rider and Ultraman. July marks the season finale, spotlighting Kamen Rider ZO (1993) and Superior 8 Ultra Brothers (2008). There are early signs the museum may continue this momentum, with more tokusatsu titles potentially planned for a future season.

The Guided Toy Tour
A particular highlight of the preview was the guided toy tour, led by a museum guide whose depth of knowledge was genuinely impressive. Beyond walking us through the vintage toy displays, he also gave a thoughtful introduction to tokusatsu as a genre for guests less familiar with it, contextualising the figures, magazines and memorabilia on show with real insight and enthusiasm. It’s the kind of guide that elevates a screening into a proper cultural experience, and full credit to him for making the tour as engaging as it was.

About Superior 8 Ultra Brothers
As for the film itself, Superior 8 Ultra Brothers brings together legendary Ultra Heroes spanning generations, from Ultraman and Ultra Seven through to Tiga, Dyna and Gaia, in a celebration of the franchise’s decades-long legacy. The film is set in an alternate world where the Ultraman franchise never existed — the heroes’ powers are sealed away, and it falls to the original Ultraman and Ultra Seven to rally their successors and restore what was lost. It’s a concept that works both as a love letter to longtime fans and as an accessible entry point for newcomers, balancing nostalgia with genuine emotional stakes. The production quality holds up well, and seeing eight Ultra Heroes share the screen remains a spectacle even by today’s standards. Ultraman film screenings are genuinely rare in Singapore, which makes this an unusual opportunity for local fans. Catching one of the best entries in the Ultraman film catalogue while also getting a guided museum tour is a combination not easily found elsewhere, and well worth carving out an afternoon for.
